What do you want to look for in a culinary school?

I want to get into a culinary school, but I don't honestly know what to look for. Should it be accredited or not? What's a reasonable tuition? I'm just looking for something affordable, because I don't make much money in my current field. Plus my community college is 25 miles away and you know what the cost of gas is! Thanks to all who can help me!

  1. Make sure it is ACF (American Culinary Federation) accredited. When you graduate, you will automatically get ACF certification as a Certified Culinarian (CC). This will look good on a resume and it is very respected in the industry. Reasonable tuition would depend on what city and state you live in. However, if and when you do graduate from Culinary School, plan on working your way up to "Chef". Chefs are managers and these jobs usually require at least 5 years of cooking experience plus college. Line cooks do not make much over minimum wage. These two websites will give you a good idea of how much your education will cost. http://www.chef2chef.net/ http://www.acfchefs.org/
