- culinary schools teach you some basic skills and fancy french names for things. mostly they teach you how to follow receipes. cooking is an art form and is best learned as an appentiship. I have been a chef for 35 years. You won't get rich or famous unless your lucky. The one thing I have learned is that fancier kitchens like that culinary degree, it makes them look good to say we have a culinary school graduate on staff. A true chef has the desire to excel, the biggest reward for me is to here yummy sounds for the people eating my food. Cooking must be in your blood and your heart as well as your soul. if you have not already cooking for youself and your family than you are at a disadvantage. A good place to look for schools is the American Culinary Association this is an organization for chefs in north america there should be a chapter in you town.
- Cruise out to the College of Du Page{COD ] in Glen Ellen. They have an excellent and realtively in expensive program. There is also CHIC in downtown which i was kind of underwhelmed by. All great chefs have great fundamentals. Select a school that emphasizes substance over style.
