How much does a culinary education cost? Can asians set up european cuisine restuarants? I plan to go to the CIA(Culinary Institute of America) to learn and get a culinary degree and work in restaurants for experience and then set up my own restaurant. How much does a culinary education cost? And, what kind of cuisine can we learn at the CIA? Can an asian set up a italian or english restaurant? Instead of their own race. Are there any good culinary schools in South East Asia? In Singapore?
How dose classes work for culinary communtiy college? I want to major in Culinary but I don't really know how the classes work in college. Is there basic class that I have to do before going into the culinary field? Because I want to get a degree from this. I wonder about these things. If someone can help me with this it would be great.
What Culinary Tour business or company would you recommend to use? That is affordable and yet so worth the trip. Especially for those who have graduated from culinary school and would like to further their education through expereince. Anywhere in the world is open to me. Less than $3,000 for about a month sometime in August to October of 2008.
Is culinary school really worth the money and time I spent? I am half way through my culinary course(it is a classroom training combined with on-the-job training) right now and I am considering to drop the school and start working in a restaurant, because I think it is the cheapest way to learn about the industry and acquiring the skills. What do you think?
What would be better for a career, in culinary or in computer maintenance? I love culinary and I would love to learn how to cook different things and to know how to do pastry and things like that. I love to cook and I love to bake, but on the other hand I love messing with computers and the money isn't bad either. But should I do both or will it be a waste? How is culinary really like and the hours they work? What about computer maintenance? I don't know if culinary is something I just want to know how to do? Any advice will help
What kind of Culinary Careers are there besides resturant management? I just recently moved to the Cincinnati area and I have always been involved in the pizza business. I just recently took a management position at Sbarro's about a month ago and find myself deeply involved in the culinary aspect of the resturant business and I enjoy it so. Although I am kind of tired of Quick Service Companies. I would really like to develop my resume to allow me to become a manager in a full service/fine dining resturant any good suggestions? Thank you for your time and answers.
What should I be looking for in a Culinary School? I am looking at a couple culinary schools right now. The New England Culinary Institute which is rated as one of the best in the country, The Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona, and the Art Institute of San Diego. Right now I live in Massachussetts but my dream is to work in San Diego. The best school is probably the one in New England but it is all the way up in Vermont. I guess what I want to know is, is there really that much of a difference between schools?
What are some fun and descent paying careers in culinary? I want to go into culinary. I work as a prep cook in a kitchen and I am starting to go to a vocational school. But I do not want to become a chef. It takes up too much of life and is'nt positive of a good pay. What I think would be cool is to own my own bakery/coffee shop somewhere and bake for it and own it at the same time, but I dont know if someone can live off of that.
Which culinary school do you think is the best? I am thinking about going to culinary school. I have been looking at Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas, Nevada and at Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California. Le Cordon Bleu is 15 months and of course cheaper but a great location. CIA is 22 months and much more expensive but is a nicer looking school and actual college campus. I've heard people say it doesn't really matter that employers are more interested in work experience than eduation. What do you think? P.S. I have no experience other than cooking for family and friends and small gatherings.
What can i do with a culinary arts degree? I would like be a pastry chef. im guessing that i need to have a culinary arts degree. Can or would i make money in the field? Its not really about the money. i just want to have a rewarding career.
How much does a person in the Culinary Arts industry make? I am a senior in High School and i'm working on my I-Search paper. My topic is "Is Culinary Arts the Right Field for Me?", I titled it this because some day I would love to open my own resturant and catering business and I need some help from the experts. Could you all help me out on this topic please?
I would like to know some of the required reading or texts used in culinary arts school, and courses? My husband and I are both planning to attend Culinary arts school. We will not be going for a few years yet. We are older and have 3 young children. However we would like to be able to familiarize ourselves with techniques and just enjoy reading them between now and then. We understand that lists vary from school to school and also from year to year. Like I said we would just like some ideas of the Required literature.
What would you wear to an interview for Culinary School? I am a 23 year old female and I have an intrerview for Culinary school this week. I am wondering which is the best way to dress. BTW its summer here so it will be rather hot and muggy. Should I go Corporate casual? Business Casual? A classy summery dress with a nice pair of heels? What do you think?
Which are the best culinary schools in Australia? I am a high school senior in Washington, DC and I am considering becoming a chef. I would like to go to school in Australia (either Sydney or Melbourne), but I dont know anything about any culinary schools in Australia. Which are the most prestigious, which are new and trendy, how much do they all cost, etc? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
What experience do I need to go to Culinary Art School? I am 15 and i am trying to go to Culinary art school because I am interested in cooking. Do i need to know certain things before i apply, or do they teach things to people all from scratch. Aka someone that has no idea about it can attend a top Culinary school. And what should i do to learn these things if they exist?
Where can I find a culinary school that teachs how to cook asian food? BESIDES IN ASIA. I'm meaning in the United States. All my searches only come up with Le Cordon Bleu Pastry Programs, etc. Is there an asian culinary school that only specialize in teaching how to cook good asian food? at the same time teaching you all the essentials you'll need to run a restuarant, etc? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!
Is it better to go to culinary school or get hands on experience if I want to be a prof. baker? Hi- I am trying to figure out if it is worth paying the big bucks to go to culinary school, or if it is better to get a hands on job in a bakery. So far the only bakery jobs I can get are in production (cooking only, no prep/mixing batters etc). Should I keep on trying to find a job in bakery or go to school first? Is the hands on experience better than school experience? Thanks!
How can I pursue a job in baking or cooking without a culinary degree? I don't have the money or the desire to pay back the amount I'd need to generate to get a culinary degree but I like working with food and I am a good cook so I was wondering how I could get a start being a cook or a baker. Do I need culinary school or are there places that would hire me without school? if so what are some places that would?
What do you want to look for in a culinary school? I want to get into a culinary school, but I don't honestly know what to look for. Should it be accredited or not? What's a reasonable tuition? I'm just looking for something affordable, because I don't make much money in my current field. Plus my community college is 25 miles away and you know what the cost of gas is! Thanks to all who can help me!
Culinary School, Questions for current students? I would like some advice from students currently enrolled in culinary arts programs. I want to be a chef, go to culinary arts school. I have applied to several, but am having a difficult time getting in. My only kitchen experience is in a college cafeteria kitchen, which is obviously far from gourmet cooking, but I thought it would still count for something. If you are currently in culinary school, what experience did you have before enrolling? Most schools are telling me I need more kitchen experience, which I kind of understand, but it is also frustrating me. Like I said I know college cafeteria cooking is certainly nothing like real, gourmet cooking, but it has taught me somethings. We serve 2000 people a day, therefore things like my knife skills and organizational skills have improved vastly. It just frustrates me, because I thought culinary school was supposed to teach me, not my prior work experience. Advice? Should I work at a restaurant for a while, then reapply?
Culinary Arts school? I'm planning on attending culinary arts school, but I want to know if in order to go there, would I have to take math, and history? Some schools are like this...is it like this for culinary school? It's cooking school, so I didn't think so. I would be going to the traditional culinary arts school, located in upstate NY. Also, would I have to have a launguage credit to go there? And, if I do, but don't have one...I know I would have to take it there. What launguages do they offer? Thanks.
Culinary degree? What is the difference between, Culinary Arts—Associate of Applied Science and Culinary Management—Bachelor of Applied Science for culinary school i'm looking into the art institute of illinois in chicago. And im not sure which degree i want to go for...
Culinary Arts major? I want to major in Culinary Arts. I am really set on going to the University of Washington but I don't think they have culinary arts as a major. Infact I haven't found many schools that do have culinary arts as a major. I want to go to a university, are there any with a major in culinary arts? Maybe I am looking in the wrong section of majors though. What would Culinary Arts be under? I keep looking in art.
Culinary arts and a state university ? I want to attend a state university and have some kind of degrees in art and music, but I also want to have a degree in culinary arts. If you want to cook, isnt it true that you can only go to culinary schools, that only offer culinary arts training, because no state universities have that as programs at their schools .? Because it would cost me way too much money to go to culinary school and a university... and i dont know what id rather do... ?
Does a culinary background complement a science degree? I am definitely an Alton Brown fan, especially for his show "Good Eats." I love how he talks about the "why" in cooking and making food. I find it so interesting. I researched his background and he went to NECI to get his culinary education. On the NECI website, there is an article about Alton Brown and he made a flash video as a talk to future students. Here's the link: http://www.necialumni.com/profile_altonbrown.html?q=alton_brown.html# In his video (if you click on the link), he talks about the culinary industry. He says that a culinary background really complements a degree in one of the sciences in the industries. I trust AB with almost everything he says, but he only has a degree in drama to go with his culinary education. I'm going into mechanical engineering (aka science degree) and I love to cook and find the science of cooking very fascinating. So, my question is: Would a culinary background complement a science degree, such as engineering? Thanks everyone.
Is culinary school the equivalent to college? Ok I am in highschool and interested in pursueing a career in the culinary arts. Ive always wanted to go to college so I am wondering if the were some culinary schools that are colleges and you get a degree or if you have to go to a college that offers a culinary program or go to college first and then culinary school?
Culinary School? I want to go to culinary school straight out of high school. What's it like? Is it tuff to get admitted? Is is as stressful as it seems? Where did you go? Where can you get a good culinary education without breaking the bank? What is the job market like... I live in Southern CA. Pastry VS Culinary arts?
Culinary School Dilema.? I am planning on attending culinar school and I am in between 3 choices. Johnson and Wales in Denver, Cook Street Culinary in Denver, and Le Cordon Blue in Miramar. They are three different programs. At J&W i would get the most complete education but i would need a huge loan and 4 yrs. At cook street it is the shortest, but most specialized choice, and the cordon blue is where my siter goes. I could live with her, but the school is 1.5 yrs , still enough for a loan and not that top notch. Have an y of you been to culinary school (especially these 3)? How didd you feel about your decision? What do you think the most important thing about culinary school is?
Culinary Management Schools in Chicago? What is the best school in Chicago for culinary management.? I'm looking for culinary MANAGEMENT, not simply culinary arts. I'm looking for the trade school or university that will give me the best credentials, and thus the best job potentials to become a restaurant manager when completed. Are trade schools better or university-type schools? I'm currently finding that, although I have management experience AND restaurant experience, I do not have management experience IN restaurants. Will a degree make a difference??
culinary schools? does anyone know a site that has a list of the best culinary schools? like a list of the top 100 culinary schools? im looking for which culinary schools are the best in the u.s. or even internationally.

Culinary School? My husband is wanting to go to Culinary School. He is thinking about the Art Institute of Nashville's Culinary Program but he wants to know how their program compares with other Culinary Schools (Le Cordon Bleu, Johnson and Whales, etc) We are planning to move to Las Vegas when I graduate college (3 years). He is torn because he can go to AI Nashville here and get some experience before we move or he can wait and go to Le Cordon Bleu when we move to Vegas.

Culinary Arts? Other career options besides chef!!!? Ok sounds weird, but I have the opportunity to go to Culinary arts School- for free!! Awesome!! I love cooking but i do not want to be a chef in a restaurant. I used to work in one and the Chef was a glorified line cook and his job was nothing like how you see chefs on TV working. I would love to have my own cooking show or something along those lines. WHAT are some other career options besides Restaurant Chef, Sous Chef etc... I am wondering if I should take this opportunity or pass it by. Thanks
Culinary Career? Food industry members, preferably? I am a sophomore in high school, and I am a decent cook. I really enjoy it, and cook when I can. Do you have to be a great cook to go to culinary school, or do you learn there? What is the career path for a potential chef down the road? I would probably have to go to college due to familial pressure, but could I take night classes or something to see if I am really cut out of the pro-cooking world? A part time gig, so to speak? Would you recommend it to a young man as a career? Does everyone end up with no social life and heart damaging stress and anxiety?
culinary college? if i wanted to attend The Culinary Institute of America college, what are the required grade average, gpa, and any cooking call requirements to get accepted..thank!!

Do you use spices a lot while making a certain cuisine? 2. Are you intrested about using more kinds of spices from aroung the world, adding to your food? why? 3. What is that so intresting about spices, is it the shape? the color? the scent? or the benefit? thank you very much for answering my questions, I would really appreciate it!
How much more do culinary school grads make compared to other cooks? The government data for culinary salaries doesn't make a distinction between cooks with an without a culinary education. They do have seperate categories for chefs, but they're using the dictionary definition of chef, meaning a cook who supervises other cooks rather than just anyone who cooks "fancy" food for a living. Most of the other categories can include both people who work at chain restaurants, and people who work at the best restaurants in the country. It makes the salary info very confusing. Also, culinary school educations go from trade school certificates, to 4 year degrees. Just how much can a cook with a culinary education from a respected culinary school, like I.C.E or C.I.A, expect to make. Honestly, the low salaries listed for the general category "restaurant cooks" are really scaring me, but I figure most of those people are employed at chain restaurants, so I don't know if I have anything to worry about. Birdlady, thanks, a lot of people have told me the same thing. However, although I don't have info about how much more money grads actually make, I do know that most cooks at the higher end restaurants have gone to culinary school, especially the actual chefs, so not getting a good education would be a barrier to getting ahead. I just wish I knew what the starting salary of a culinary grad really is. I know it may not be as much as I hoped it would be, but there's just no way that there's not a difference in pay.

do you love or hate your culinary school/culinary profession? before my current profession I was suppose to go into culinary school and become a chef...it was before the hype and explosion of culinary stars and the food network...it's been almost 5 1/2 years in my current profession and I still aspire to join the culinary world..I've done my research and explored my options...I am considering going to California Culinary Arts of San Francisco or Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park,NY...I'm looking for opinons of the schools or the profession...thanks
Which culinary institute is better? Le Cordon Bleu in Paris or The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. I want to know my stuff well to be a great chef, ur comments would be very appreciated. (feel free to state other culinary institutes that are also great culinary institutes.

Culinary Career? i'm in the navy as an HM but i plan on changing jobs to culinary for a possible career out of the navy. i wanted RPS but it was not avaliable at the time so i picked medical but my grades are an a average thus i'd be wasting the navy's money and my money by trying to get into this area of study. culinary seems better because i can combine my artistic talents for the navy and better them while doing my job. as well as it is safer. i just want some opinions on this matter. i am a corpsman right now but that does not fit my artististical abilities and how i can make the best out of the navy. i hope to make a career out of of but an HM really would not seem best. i am in delayed entry and was hoping to change before i ship. so what are other serice members of the navy thoughts of culinary
Culinary arts club cuisine? Another culinary arts club question. I'm in the culinary arts club at my high school. Each month we're going to pick a cuisine. This is the first year that this club has existed, so what's an easy, organized cuisine that we could do for our first month?
culinary arts? when i graduate from high school which is next year im goin to go to culinary arts my fiance is going into the coast guards and were going to live in main for a while so my question is are there any good culinary arts in main
Culinary Schools? I posted a question yesterday asking which culinary schools in the US and abroad were most prestigious and highest ranked, and got a great response. Today, I'm hoping to find some people who have actually attended culinary schools and are currently Chefs, or are in school currently and can give me their input on the programs and speak of their experiences...just trying to get a feel for what it's like before enrolling (and going on a tour obviously of the schools). If possible, could you also explain the difference in certificates and degrees and how high one must go to land a great job? you can also email me at arpsurvey@yahoo.com. Thanks !
Culinary School???? hey every1... I would love to go to Culinary school but im not a great cook...I know I would love cooking if I actually knew recipes and how to make things...So what I would like to know is: DO they TEACH you how to cook in Culinary school...or Is it for people who have talent for cooking..? I know this may seem like a dumb question but I would still like an answer. thnx! By the way, cooking is just a second route...I would like to get a degree in something else...Prob. buisness administration or sumthin like that and then if I feel i can I would like to attend culinary school.... The reason I write this is so that no one says "You can Do it"...Maybe the more appropriate thing would be "Good luck to you In 5-10 years"..Which is when I would like to go to C.S.... Thanx to whoever said Good luck....who knows maybe in a year(which is when I graduate Highschool) I may decide to go to Culinary School first and see how that works out for me..
Does it matter which culinary school you attend?? I live in NM and there is no actual culinary schools here. The only thing we have is a culinary assoc. degree from the community college. Is that going to cut in the the culinary world? Should I make the trip to another state to go to a Culinary Institute?
Culinary School? Hi guys I need a lot of info here and its real inportant. I need a Culinary School in Southern CA and need to know these things about them. Minimum Requirements For Admission...such as GPA, SAT or ACT Scores, Corces required, Extra Curricular (iam not even shure if u need any of those things). If there is a Language Requirment like 2 or 3 years of a language. And last if they have study abroad (which I doubt they will). Any Culinary School in Souther CA or even just CA is ok with me. Culinary School in 2 weeks, what to expect? Hello, I'm starting my Culinary program in two weeks... I am very nervous because I don't necessarily have a lot of experience in the kitchen, would anyone who's had experience in a culinary school give me any tips on what to do to stay in good shape. Could anyone give me any info on what to expect? I am very excited but nervous at the same time!
University with culinary arts/business...? SO, I'm a Freshman right now and ever since I was little I've wanted to go into the culinary arts field, and I really want to open up a coffee shop/bakery but i want to go to college first. i want to double major in culinary arts and photography, or double minor in photography and business. The location of the university is REALLY important to me. I want to go to a university that is in a small town that is really close to a city. I live in Pennsylvania right now, and I'm thinking I want to go someplace without cold winters. SO, where would you guys recommend? and also, what kinds of things do the colleges look for if one is planning on going for culinary arts? Thanks!
Culinary School Question? I am in a "quarter life crisis" right now and I finally realized I am going to do what I want and become a chef. I live in Chicago and have access to some good culinary schools but there is not a lot of information out there on them. Is anyone firmilar with the Chicago schools? Are all culinary degrees just two years? I want to learn how to really cook and all the techniques and not a "hospitality" degree. If you can help me out with some info I would love it, thanks! Sara2727 thanks for the great answer!!!! Does the "name brand" of the school have a lot of bearing on your ability to get a job? My goal is to open my own place and not work for others.
Culinary Schools? what is the average cost of culinary schools? for example like texas culinary academy?

Is culinary school a bad idea? I am currently a senior in college getting my bachelors in psychology. I am debating going to law school or culinary school. I have a passion for both. What are the job opportunities like for someone who gets a degree in the culinary arts? I want to open my own restaurant but i'm just scared i'll end up working as a burger flipper at mcdonald's instead. Should I just be more practical and go to law school where a good job is more attainable? I always see these fancy french chefs on tv and that terrifies me because i feel like I couldn't hold a candle to them.

Culinary Arts degree? I've always loved food but my mom has never been a big cook so I don't have much experience. More recently I've been interested in cooking and I think I can be really good at it. Most things I make turn out well, I'm a quick learner and I've got pretty good leadership skills. All qualities for a good chef, right? The community college I go to has an amazing culinary arts program but... I'm scared. Its something I've never done before. Are there many jobs for chefs? Any feedback would be helpful, thanks guys
